User rights update 2

Users who requested upload permissions are now capable of uploading.

Due lack of time to maintain the theme viewer on my own, i am looking for a helping hand to give people upload/update rights and reply on support questions. Please comment here if you are willing to put some time into the theme viewer.

    People, please think before offering your help: we don’t need the theme viewer to be actively maintained only for the next few weeks, this is a long-term engagement.

  3. yeah, i’ll do my best. how are you planning on setting this up? matt seems to have implemented some sort of support ticket setup on wordpress.com, to keep from flooding everyone’s inbox with things someone else has already responded to. perhaps he could donate that code?

  22. In regards to you seeking help for the Wordpress themes site.

    Why don’t you add adsense to the site - you couldn’t have a more perfect site to do this with, and then you would be able to afford to pay a person to maintain the site.

    First take a look at http://www.urltrends.com/ (if you haven’t been there yet)

    When you enter a URL to preview, this site loads a page with Adsense or ads first. This could be done when people preview themes on your site. or you could add a 728 x 90 banner above and below each theme - with no delay.

    You could also have a 468 x 60 banner at the top and bottom of each thumbnail page.

    I see nothing wrong with this and people will have to get used to it as websites are quickly becoming much like magazines and peoples demands on website owners are increasing. Expectations are higher as well - but who’s paying for it all?

    The only way webmasters or site owners can give people what they want is by making money off their websites.

    Have you heard of anyone not buying Popular Mechanics because of all the ads - or any other magazine. No one in there right mind would start a magazine WITHOUT the intention of attracting and having ads - it would be certain death.

    You’ve done a nice job of putting together one of the best selections of WP themes on the Net! and I don’t think anyone would mind if you did this - lets just say the alternative was that this site could not function because you could not afford to run it. Would people mind if that was the end result?

    If anyone sees advertising as wrong - I suggest they try to build and keep a site like this going - most give up. Very simply, it is expensive and time consuming to run a site like this - even if it is just time - what am I saying, time is money, and for webmasters, it should be a good amount - their is lots one needs to know.

I’ll help with updating permissions if there is some sort of GUI, I can do some rudimentary PHP, but not to much besides but I am great at rewriting pages and other administrative tasks that are hard to do when you use your time coding. I’d love to help, I love word press, and of course Jazz, and don’t forget: CODE IS POETRY!

  32. I’m working on a couple of services that will actually benefit members and visitors. The plan is to shift towards useful services to support ongoing operations and remove the adsense advertising. One thing I really like about the WordPress ThemeViewer is that there are no ads, but if it were necessary to have advertising to support the site, I wouldn’t complain.

  4. The downside of asking the general public for assistance is that most people who are willing to help require instructions on how to be of assistance.

    It becomes as much of a chore showing how to do the work, as it would just doing it yourself.

    Can you relate?

    On that note, click the “website” link. Post this url where developers can upload their beta themes.

    All new WordPress themes will be pretested and evaluated, after which they will be posted in a secure directory at my site. Then all you will have to do is upload the results to your site periodically.

    Contact me regarding access details if this suits you.

    You may post a general invitation to theme developers use this upload page.

    More than happy to be of assistance.

  20. Can someone help me out here?

    I believe my account was activated on the Feb5th update, but for some reason I can’t see where to submit themes?

    This is what i do;

    1. Login
    2. Get sent to WP Admin
    3. Click view site in the header
    4. Go to upload theme page

    But this is all I see:
    In order to be able to upload themes, the only thing you need to do, is to create a user and contact me with your username. This is ……….

    etc etc.

    What am I doing wrong?!

  29. I’d quite like to upload my Sandbox skins in theme form, but I’m assuming Sandbox is incompatible with the theme viewer as it uses functions.php and isn’t up here already. Can somebody confirm this for me?

  31. I love the looks of this theme. However I am a complete newbie although I’m working on 3 sites now.
    WP is totally new and I’m using it on one site, only since this morning.

    My problem is I don’t use ftp I use my online filemanager. How can I install this? I’ve downloaded the theme so I have all the files can I just replace the ones in my filemanager?

  35. I just released a theme called ColourFull Wall. ColourFull Wall is a black minimalist theme, highly customisable, lightning fast, easy to deploy and use while supporting the vast majority of plugins out there. It is SEO optimised coming with a built-in sitemap and archives page template. More little nifty goodies are built down into it like some quick shooting stats of the blog and bookmark link in the posts.   11. In my opinion, at least half the designers offering to help you have in the past faked a feedback or used aliases to leave negative feedbacks to other designs. Handing over such a huge responsibility to someone who has abused this system to their own competitive advantage is like allowing a “monkey to fly a plane” (original quote from Borat).

    I suggest you create a panel of respected and honest designers or WP enthusiasts to run this site. I have over 45 themes here and I would hate to leave this site only because some a**hole has been given the responsibility to run the show.
