How difficult can it be #3

Read this and this, and hopefully you will understand why user uploading of themes has been removed.

I have been away for almost a week, and after 6 days i had to use 30 minutes of my precious time removing duplicate theme uploads.

I will have to figure out a new system and before that is in place no new themes will be added to the viewer.

  1. Shocking. I’m really confused why people would upload multiple versions of their themes. Ridiculous. Maybe usernames and logins? At least that way there could be tracking.

    Could (maybe) be a reasonable step in leaving some (now measured) control in users hands. I’d for one like to see the principle of this feature in place. Let’s see, though. Quality themes in a quality interface are most important.

  2. Perhaps you could use some help? You could do something like what addons.mozilla.org does and let a panel of users review each submission before it’s posted.

  3. When can we expect to upload more themes? Just curious.

    I can’t think of a better way to track the progress of all my themes in one place, like on themes.wordpress.net. I would hate to see it being abused.

  6. May be you allow it only to registered users ?

    I just launched a new theme in my site, http://wpthemes.info and wanted to upload it here too.

    Looking forward to have a fix for this issue.

  7. I don’t know. I only uploaded one version of slinedmod theme and then I saw someone uploaded another one- the very same one- I don’t know why nor I understand who could had been doing such! That’s very sad because the themes viewer could be such a great resource for both users and themes designer and it’s a pity that someone uses it this way… :’( .
