  1. AJAXy terminal simulator. May need path separator fixes for Windows servers; also makes use of ImageMagick (you’d be better off with a *nix server). The demo doesn’t handle images, but it’s pretty cool when it works (see code in interpret.php).

  3. Yes, the cloud won’t work in the demo either. Both the image replacement and the cloud need to be able to write to the file system, and (wisely) the test run doesn’t allow that. You’ll have to take it on faith that it works — or see http://blog.elinc.ca/rodcli/ .

  8. Updated again — fixed for Opera, and the cloud now works in the test run (still not images though). Glad everyone likes it!

    Additional selling point: if you’re a hacker, it’s easy to add your own commands to interpret.php.

  13. Sigh… you’d think I was developing this thing as I went along. Images are now fixed. If you have ImageMagick and specify the location of ‘convert’ in index.php, you can get an animated raster effect on images.

    今年才剛開始，年度最酷的 theme 就已經出爐了… XD

    今天布丁看到一個很酷的 WordPress theme，叫做 CLI，顧名思義就是 Command Line Interface 是也… 這裡有 demo，看了以後還真想把這裡的 theme ….

  30. [...] I just found this on the Wordpress Theme site and simply put… its amazing. The theme makes heavy use of Ajax to create a “command line interface” which lets you access all the posts and pages. While the theme is very cool, unfortunately it isn’t the easiest to use since you have to view everything through commands. Luckily, you can supply a version of your blog with a GUI which you can access by saying “gui” or the Linux equivalent “startx”. Either way, this theme gets a 10/10 in my book for creativity.   39. Sorry, I’m kind of working blind with regard to Macintosh. It was working fine in Konqueror, which I thought was pretty much the same as Safari. I enabled the same hack as for IE and Opera (checking for Enter keypress). Let me know how that works.

  42. I tried it and cannot see the prompt

    (The part that says “guest@wordpress-testsite:/$”)

    What I saw is only my site title and a blinking cursor on the next line. I also cannot type anything into it.

    Are there any limitations? I tried using both Firefox and IE but the results are the same…

  43. #42 — Yes, you need to have JavaScript on. The <noscript> message isn’t showing because I have it shoved to the bottom of the screen. Will update in a couple of minutes to fix this…

  44. OK, works in Safari now.

    Couple of suggestions:

    1. Remove the license from ‘help’. It causes the commands to scroll off screen. Add a ‘license’ command.

    2. Implement a pager, e.g. ‘more’ or ‘less’. cating a long post and scrolling back to its beginning is tedious.

Eric: 1) easy and done. 2) not so much — it’s hard to tell when you’ve output one “screen”, especially when screens vary in size and the content is HTML that could have images, font size changes, or what have you. I thought about this too, but it will take a stronger hacker than I to pull it off…

    One approach is the least common denominator path - assume 24×80 or something close. Images and other fomatting nuances will certainly affect this, but by aiming low chances are good that paging will be close for most purposes.

  4. It’s horrible for SE, Andrea. If you want Google hits, I’d recommend running a parallel blog with a conventional theme, like my /rod and /rodcli (hack wp-settings in your CLI version so that the theme directory is hard-coded, like wp-content/themes/cli/). CLI uses JavaScript for just about everything you can see on the page. Spiders won’t see anything other than the minimal text you see on first load.

    Eric: it’s worse than that. One can’t just serve up the first x lines of HTML and expect it to display correctly. If one uses <div> or <blockquote> or <ul> any other tag that is likely to include several lines, the results of serving the opening tag but not the closing tag would be unpredictable (and bad HTML). The solution would involve parsing the HTML before displaying it (hard). However, if the content was guaranteed to be nothing but straightforward text, your solution could work. I’ll experiment with a simple pager as an option.

  38. Latest version:

    -Attempted compliance (HTML 4.01 Transitional — there’s no chance of doing XHTML because of some JavaScript requirements)

    -WP 2.1 fixes for database table names

    -Note added to make the gimg/ folder writable by PHP (for green-washed images)

    I recommend updating (this version uploaded 6PM PST, Jan 25/07). If your custom commands are in commands/ (not in interpret.php) you should be able to just unzip on top of the existing install.

    There is a problem on some installs where the post navigation (f, p, n, and l commands) is not working. I can’t duplicate this on my setup, so if anyone who this is happening to wants to work it out, please get in touch.

  1. [...] 前幾天CLI佈景主題的作者談到有關CLI佈景主題上線之後，所觀察到的有趣的現象。居然有相當比例的訪客會輸入「fuck you」 ，還真是滿詭異的。起碼我自己只會想到試著敲進DOS或linux（例如su -之類的XD）指令 ，看看會有什麼回應啊。大概自從GUI成為操作介面的主流之後，很少有人會用command line interface了，所以在不知所措的情況下，只好罵髒話了。（據說現在作者的不露格會ban掉上去敲髒話的人了。XD） [...]

  28. Oh, who knows what kind of permissions are set up on the demo. The whole bit that uses that is gone from the greatly improved and SE-friendly CLI 2.0, which should be coming in the next few days.

    To the “too minimalistic” and “impractical” crowd: Good day, Captain Obvious! The question remains, is it art?
