[...] But figuring out how to place two posts side-by-side wasn’t a total loss! I learned that you can use CSS to determine the placement of a post on your blog, and I may be able to reuse the code I copied from the Japanese Cherry Blossom 1.0 theme: #primary.twocol-stories .first, * html #primary.twocol-stories .first{ margin:0 0 0 0; } [...]

[...] I figured out how to show two sets of posts, one for news and one for a weekly recap, but right now the posts are listed under each other. I want the posts to sit next to each other, in two separate columns. I remembered seeing a couple themes that had that feature, like D3S1GN 4UCK 1 and Japanese Cherry Blossom 1.0. I downloaded both just to take a look at their template files. Both index.php files have the same code for displaying the posts (with a couple minor stylistic differences): <div id=”primary” class=”twocol-stories”> <div class=”inside”> <?php // Here is the call to only make two posts show up on the homepage REGARDLESS of your options in the control panel query_posts(’showposts=2′); ?> <?php if (have_posts()) : ?> <?php $first = true; ?> <?php while (have_posts()) : the_post(); ?> <div class=”story<?php if($first == true) echo ” first” ?>”> <h3><a href=”<?php the_permalink() ?>” rel=”bookmark” title=”Permanent Link to <?php the_title(); ?>”><?php the_title(); ?></a></h3> <?php the_excerpt() ?> <div class=”details”> Posted at <?php the_time(’ga on n/j/y’) ?> | <?php comments_popup_link(’no comments;’, ‘1 comment’, ‘% comments’); ?> | Filed Under: <?php the_category(’, ‘) ?> | <span class=”read-on”><a href=”<?php the_permalink() ?>”>read on</a></span> </div> </div> <?php $first = false; ?> <?php endwhile; ?> [...]

[...] The more I looked at that black theme, the ever so slightly more it depressed me. I figured it was time for me to go out and seek something different. Now, I really like the Hemingway Theme for its simple, clean, uncluttered layout, but I felt it needed a touch of color outside of the “black” and “white” canned versions. Unfortunately, I really couldn’t find anything I wanted that kept the essence of the theme but made it a little more inviting on the eyes (although the Japanese Blossom version came awfully close). For those of you who are searching for a solution to the problem I had (the iframe issue) - I never found a solution. I emailed the author of the site and never received a response. Further, I just went with the hemingway theme and modified it, since I could get no assistance with the issue I had with this “t-mod.”

[...] I am a compulsive theme tweaker. I do not create themes for my blogs, I take existing ones and tweak it to my liking. Connections has been my theme almost since the beginning of my use of Wordpress. I’ve tweaked it many times but it always looked very close to the original theme. I am still using Connections as my theme, but I’ve tweaked it so much that it no longer looks anything like Connections! I took my inspiration from the Cherry Blossom theme that I had on this site for a good 12 hours last night. But that theme was too minimalistic for me and by adding all the stuff I wanted, I would take away from the beauty of its minimalism. So, I kept the black and pink theme of the cherry blossoms and tweaked the Connections theme to my liking. I’m liking it so far but I am thinking that my cherry tree on the left still needs some work. [...]

I’d love to move the sidebar over a little further to the right, as my graphic makes this theme look a bit closed in, as is. I dropped the space between the header and the posts down a touch without a problem, but no matter which settings I changee or add, I can’t figure out how to move the sidebar to the right 10 or 20pix even though there’s plenty of room.

This theme looks fantastic, but loads very slow due to the fact that the author left hardcoded javascript calls to http://krisandapril.us. Just as a note to future downloaders, change those calls inside header.php either before you upload the theme, or before you activate it.
Might want to get that fixed up. That, and that alone is why it didn’t get a full five stars.

However, my two entries at the top appear in “iframes.” Any idea what file I need to go to and what I need to fix to change this? There are so many files included with the theme I’m just not sure where to go to fix this. Thanks!
Comment by Christy — July 16, 18:50
Am I right to notice that it doens’t work with the lightbox plugin?
Comment by BB — July 19, 14:11
It’s just Hemingway width a Japanese blossom added. The links should take the user to where the “designer” them wants to be. No use in doing it this way.
Comment by Al — July 20, 22:53
It’s vaguely useable, but there’s a pretty big graphic flaw on it; Cherry blossoms have petals in groups of five, not six.
Comment by Tristan — July 31, 22:31
I didn’t make the graphic.
Also, I never said this was “my” theme. In fact, on my website I call it a t-mod “theme modification”, but there is no such word right now online. Hopefully, it will catch on.
