[...] I decided to see how easy it was. First I went to see if I could sign up for Google’s SOAP API, but I found out that they no longer offer this service. Without this service, it is going to be a lot harder to get this done. Ignoring the whole api problem, I decided to find a search string to find comment pages on WordPress blogs. I was amazed at how easy this was. I just went to a blog using the default WordPress theme and looked for keywords that would always be there. After about a second I came up with this search string: [...]

[...] Bit of background, when designing templates for Wordpress, I am lazy and use the Default Kubrick as a basic framework. Kubric has a custom 404 template. Mistake was putting the Recent Comments section in the Footer of said theme… The footer that was shared across all pages in the site… Including the Custom 404 page! [...]

[...] The easiest way to create a Wordpress theme is to download the Default theme and replace the graphical parts with the ones you created in Photoshop and by editing the default style sheet. Using this technique will help you to learn how Wordpress themes work and soon you will be able to create your own. [...]

[...] I felt much better about my frustrations when I saw that the theme I was trying to customize actually fits numbers one, two and three on that list perfectly. And I was trying to alter the DEFAULT theme, because I thought that would be the easiest and simplest to alter. HA HA HA!!!! Wrong. So, I’m going to do a bit more research and see if I can find a very basic and easy to change theme and if not, I’m going to try and build one myself using the simplest theme I can find and simplify it. Wish me luck. [...]

[...] This is an excellent counter-point, and I agree with it. Of course if you slap Kubrick on your blog and add a few links to the sidebar it’ll look much like many other blogs on the web. The alternative, as he states, for blogs which make someone a living or are trying to establish a brand (quite far from this site) is to start from scratch with a blank CSS file. Which frightens me. Designing is thinking, and if you care about design, every detail — the layout, the colors, the markup, the URL structure — deserves to be thought about. [...]
